Purpose: The coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions as indicated in the patients medical record. Ensures all coding is in accordance with official coding guidelines from the American Medical Association, the America Hospital Association, and the Health Information Management Association. All work is carried out in accordance with the Health Information Management department and approved policies and procedures. Education: This specialist must have a high school diploma and posses AAPC or AHIMA certification or possess relevant training/experience Experience: Must possess in-depth knowledge of medical and anatomical terminology, reimbursement principles, health record content, sequencing of diagnoses, and the use of coding software.
